ANZAC ACTIVITY

ATTENTION! It is almost ANZAC day and we need to fight in the war! Okay NO we are not actually fighting in the war but for us it was . . . The day started as a normal day. I came to school wondering what I would have for lunch until I heard "THERE ARE LASERS IN THE CLASSROOM!!!!" I ran with my friend Valerie to put my bag away. We squinted our eyes and tried to see what was going on. Finally we could see our class was covered in lazers! String to be exact, We were anxious to see what was going to happen in our class.. RING!!!!!!!! Well there goes the bell! We ran in the pouring rain making us soaked. When we reached the door we saw everyone sitting inside one of the three classrooms in Manukau and we came and sat down with everyone else.

When we came we saw string about 80cm off the ground. We crawled to a space and did our maths. I got distracted when we heard bombs and gunshots. I felt really uncomfortable and a bit scared about the whole bombs and gunshots. I didn't do that well because I was distracted by all the sounds. Normally I can talk while doing my work but it was different because my mind was not really set on the maths test it was mostly set on the distractions and the noises and the cries that everybody was shouting. So when the maths test was over I looked at it and realised that maybe I should put more focus into my work then being distracted. Next we did the ANZAC maths tasks where we had to find how many years the NZ army fought in the war. For example 1899 - 1934 It wasn't that hard but with the bombs it was very noisy and I really did NOT finish. it was a really nice way to have examples of numbers how it can get from for example 19 to 22 if you know the answer you can answer in in the comments!

Then the most tiring part was FRUIT BREAK and we had to do exercises and ate fruit. We were sooo exhausted though at least  it was better than running around the field 1000 times!!! The compost bucket came around and we had to work as a group to pass the bucket around TEAMWORK MAN!!!!!!! It was a really nice way to see us all working together not just as a group but as a syndicate too it was really nice to see us calling each other and making sure that nobody missed out and that nobody was left behind.

Next up was writing  that we had to write a postcard or a letter to someone that we would like to send in the war. I wrote it for my whole entire family. I really like to express my feelings in writing so I can see what kind of ideas I can have in the future. Sometimes I don't really want to express my ideas c and just think of another way I can express my other ideas with my group and my team and my class. I sat next to my friend Faith and we talked to each other about how we would feel about being in the war and sending postcards to families that were on the other side of the world. if you want to see mine here is mine:

25 April 1915

Dear Family,

In the trenches hurt and cold needing food, rotten and old rats are eating our food bigger than cats. I wish I was home spending time with you. I wish I could see you after the war. Hiding in the trenches hurt, cold and praying. Bombs and bullets are killing all our Soldiers when the war is over we will come and set sail. We can have a feast and enjoy our time together. But here our dinner is disturbed with crackers and tea. NO! We lost another, another amush as they dared to set foot on the ‘No Man's Land’ We can hear the screaming of soldiers running in war! 5000 are killed. I am lucky I am alive. I will never forget the times we had together. I have been shot in the ankle now going quietly on the ship where all the wounded go. It hurts a lot but I promise to be strong. I love you and I hope you are well.

Sincerely From

 Your daughter Arielle Trinity Maiava

We also did something called an acrostic poem and we had to think of a word I choose GALLIPOLI. Gallipoli is also called the Gallipoli Peninsula that is where they saw the Turkish Army for the first time. if you don't know what an acrostic poem is it is where you choose a word mine was Gallipoli if you didn't know haha, and you put your word on the side of your document or drawing and you choose either words or sentences to use but they have to start with the letter like the first letter of Gallipoli is G so I would put going to war if you want to see an example Here is mine:

Going to war

Armies shooting the enemies

Lives are being lost

Losing the war never going to happen

Island of Gallipoli lost in the seven seas

Pain of the soldiers wounded and hurt

Over the mountains as the army climbs sneakily up the mountains

Loved ones thinking about their loved ones.

I wish that I wasn’t in the war and with my family

YES I crawled out the door and stood up for the FIRST TIME MORNING TEA HAD BEEN COMMENCED . As we crawled out I stood up and face planted on the floor. I was so excited to go out of this crampy classroom filled with wires on the top of our heads. We are finally free! Now the rain bell had gone so we had to go inside the hall. We played the game with one of our teachers and it was kind of like Simon Says for when the bell rang. I was really looking forward to having a really long time standing up but I guess I was wrong! At least we got to stand up and enjoy our free time. I think that is the only free time that we're going to have. so I tried to make the most of it by talking to my friends and spending time with them because they might be inside the classroom or in a different classroom trying to complete their tasks under the trenches or wires.

I was so happy to hear that we're allowed to go swimming. going to groups of four and we're going to be in Group 1 and Group 2 we were Group 1 so we went right after. We thought we had to stand in the rain but we just stood under the deck. The teacher went to go and unlock the doors and we stood under the rain. We were so soaked when we got in but I guess it was going to be worth it just because we're swimming and playing in the rain. It was really fun as we splashed each other as soon as we got the chance. It was really fun to spend time out of the classroom. This was one of the most fun times I had in the swimming pool. It felt like when the soldiers came back from the war and they were really excited to see their parents and family. I felt really happy going to the pool because I finally got some free time out of the classroom and I actually felt excited to go back into the class and do more learning about ANZAC day.

When we got back we did our task called a pictograph. For the pictograph we had to write pictures or Draw  what we heard for example if we heard the Australian going to the wrong Beach told by the British navy. I would write or draw the British flag and I would write U.S and Navy then I would draw a beach and put a big cross on it to explain that the Australians went to the wrong beach. I would not write the Australian flag, I would draw a Stickman and I would write an arrow and right australians' or Aussies cos that's what I normally write. Then the teacher came and asked us to retail the story but not in the proper wording in your own wording.that was probably one of my favourite tasks.

then lunch came for lunch we did the same thing and ran out the door and try to go and do everything we could see we tried to run around the field and get ourselves comfortable and try and get Outdoors and tried to get more energy because we haven't been out or not really out but we have been stuck in the classroom all day and we have never stood up in 3 or 2 hours. My legs they really sore they felt like they just have been through surgery! My friends were really relieved to be out but we had another task to do which was quite nice so we enjoyed that a lot and we tried to focus on not going to the classroom.

finally play time was over lunch was over and we were kind of sad because we thought it was the last time we would stand up in 15800 years (not really) we all got our lunch box and crawled to a space inside the two rooms.me and my friends that are under a table so we didn't have to sit down on our stomachs it really hurt so I was really glad to hear that we could sit under there. our teachers had a fight with the Nerf guns that they used if anybody put their head up above the wires they would be shot on the ankles. I was really happy not to lose a life or get shot. We were so scared when our teachers came around with the Nerf guns they kept on screaming and were trying to make a Barricade with the lunchbox lids. luckily if you remember what I said about fruit break we had the pears but they were all stacked on top of each other which means that we had something that looks like an egg carton and I used that or I found it underneath all the pears so I took one and used it as a pillow a blanket and something I can keep my hair on so it wouldn't get really watery underneath the floor or on top of the floor. I was really thrilled by how the teacher's were fighting with Nerf guns. It made me feel like I was in a movie and I was being threatened by someone but in a funny and cool way especially with teachers.

lunch was over but that didn't end there we were still having the fight with the teacher's but it ended when I accidentally took all of my teachers bullets why do I have to do that! I was wondering why I took the bullets and how and I realised that my pillow had been used for a Barricade for myself so if Ms daily or any other teachers tried to shoot me I would be safe because I had my Barricade though I was in the middle of the classroom so it wasn't really helpful but at least I got all their bullets! We listened to a story and it took ages but I really enjoyed it because it was very inspiring for me and it went through everything that the soldiers went through and I really enjoyed it as well because I really got inspired to write something about their time or my time in the trenches and under the wires.

Well I think that's enough reading for today for you and typing for me so I hope you enjoyed it and if your parents want to see anything about this read this too! wow if you actually read the whole thing it sounds like a really great story to me maybe I will write when I'm older or write a book when I'm older. I love how our teachers did this for us and how they put time and effort to put those strings on the tables which probably took13.3 300000 hours oh speaking about strings for last task we had to find a buddy and try to get the popsicle stick that was on the end of the strings were where we had to wind all the string up but for a catch we had to put blindfolds on one person had to be the navigator and one person had to be the person who winds at the string it was really challenging because I was the first one to navigate my buddy Vivian. although Vivian is a really good listener and a really good thinker and really good at figuring out strategies so it's pretty easy because she knew what to do until we came up to one of the strings had to go underneath it was so hard for me to explain and so hard to get it out we realised there was in a tangle and we had to cut it it was really sad because I really wanted to see her try and I did but not too well. Then when it came to my turn I knew that I would screw up. Basically I was laughing at myself because I was a total catastrophe and it didn't really work out until I knew what to do which was to go underneath over and when it got a big massive hole I went underneath an imaginary string to see how hard it is! Vivian helped me to though so I got to know if I should go up over down or round was really hard but we got through it and we got to the end which didn't really end exactly how we thought so what I did know was that this day was going to be a really suspicious day but it was awesome and I really wish I could go back in time and do it again by go back in time and do it again I mean go back in time to do the swimming again because the swimming was probably my best part of the whole day and it was really fun but it was also not part of the actual thing so I decided for myself right now right time right now that I think the whole day was awesome right-up for when I woke up to the morning till I fell asleep at night which is definitely not now thanks for reading and check out some more blogs from my other buddies and classmates!

I am forgetting a lot of things today anyways look at these bye!!!!
